A shining example – Rose Lane in running for Norwich civic design award, published in Parking Review September Issue 2017

The Rose Lane Car Park in Norwich has been nominated for a design award in the Civic Category by the Norwich Society. The 595-space steel-framed structure was built for Norwich City Council in 2016 by Huber Car Park Systems International in collaboration with Potter and Holmes Architects. The Rose Lane car park acts as the anchor for the redevelopment of the city’s Mountergate area. It is a 24-hour facility which, during the day, offers public parking, toilet and baby changing facilities and, at night, is used by people visiting local clubs. In the evenings the car park’s perforated steel facade is illuminated and its exterior provides a set of toilet cubicles for club-goers. Cllr Bert Bremmer, cabinet member for environment and sustainable development, said: „This project is not just about a new multi-storey to serve the city centre, it’s about kick-starting regeneration. Provision of parking will hopefully act as a catalyst for private sector investment and bring new business to the area.  Rose Lane was named Best New Car Park at the 2017 British Parking Awards in March. The Norwich Society Awards ceremony takes place at The Assembly House in Norwich later this year.
